TOKYO (Reuters) – Japanese manga comics creator Akira Toriyama, known for popular titles such as “Dragon Ball (NYSE:)” and “Dr. Slump”, died of an acute subdural hematoma on March 1, the publisher said on Friday Shueisha.
He was 68 years old.
“Dragon Ball”, first published in the comic magazine Weekly Shonen Jump in 1984, has subsequently been adopted into films, video games and TV series, distributed in more than 80 countries.
Toriyama was also known as the character and monster designer of the hit role-playing game series “Dragon Quest”.
“We will never forget Akira Toriyama for the gift he left on this earth. I can’t imagine a world without Dragon Ball,” one fan wrote on the official “Dragon Ball” website.
