The Scottish Ambulance Service has sacked Christopher Gallacher, a duty manager at Glasgow’s West Centre, after discovering an on-duty emergency dispatcher was picking him and his family up from the airport after a holiday. According to a disciplinary tribunal, this happened on an evening when there were a “high number of calls” and patients were waiting “long periods of time”. The switchboard operator was away from his place for 45 minutes. Gallacher said he thought the man would use his break to pick him up.
