A new list compiled by Forbes and market research firm Statista ranks the country’s top startup employers.
The startups in question had to have more than 50 employees and be founded between 2014 and 2021. They also could not be offshoots of larger companies; they must have been started independently.
Statista looked at millions of data points, from social media posts and online reviews from employees, to employee retention rates, job opportunities and workplace flexibility from employers. Each startup received a score and was then ranked against the others.

According to the report, among thousands of startups in the United States, the top five stood out in reputation, employee satisfaction and growth. Two are in Massachusetts, one in California, one in Oregon and one in Michigan. Three of the five were in the energy and resources sector, while the remaining two were in the security and healthcare sector.
Here’s a look at the top five.
1 ONE
According to Forbes, Our Next Energy (ONE), a startup founded four years ago in the electric vehicle battery industry, took the top spot thanks to its culture. The Michigan-based startup reportedly has an “ego-free” mentality and allows employees to express their ideas freely.
In December, ONE’s Gemini electric vehicle battery reached 608 miles on a single charge, which is more than double the range of many electric vehicles on the market today.
2. Coalition
According to Forbes, Coalition, a San Francisco-based cybersecurity startup, is the largest startup offering cyber insurance with more than 85,000 customers. The San Francisco-based company was founded in 2017 and was last valued at $5 billion. It was also on the Forbes Fintech 50 list.
3. Electric hydrogen
Electric Hydrogen, a Massachusetts-based startup working to unlock low-cost green hydrogen, a clean energy technology, placed third. It is the first billion-dollar green hydrogen startup and prioritizes employee well-being with on-site service. gym, location flexibility and unlimited PTO.
4. Intersect power
Intersect Power is another clean energy startup, but one that offers low-carbon solutions to customers around the world. The Oregon-based company was founded in 2016 and announced commercial operation of a new solar energy project last year.

5. Devoted health
Devoted Health, a seven-year-old Massachusetts-based health insurance startup with a mission to change healthcare for seniors for the better, ranked fifth because the 2,000-person company has “mastered the art to connect with others while working.” remotely,” according to Forbes.
