US military says it destroyed a Houthi drone over the Red Sea By Reuters

(Reuters) – The U.S. military said it destroyed a drone launched by Yemen’s Houthis on Saturday, while another is believed to have crashed into the Red Sea.

There were no reports of damage or injuries from ships in the vicinity, US Central Command (CENTCOM) said in a statement.

CETNCOM also said it destroyed five unmanned surface vessels and a UAV in self-defense in Houthi-controlled areas of Yemen.

“It was determined that these weapons posed an imminent threat to merchant shipping and U.S. Navy vessels in the region,” the statement read.

Months of Houthi attacks in the Red Sea have disrupted global shipping, forcing companies to reroute to longer and more expensive voyages around southern Africa, and stoked fears that the war between Israel and Hamas could spread to destabilize the Wider Middle East.

The United States and Britain carried out strikes against Houthi targets in response to attacks on ships.
