Nashville police try to increase female recruits by lowering standards

The Metro Nashville Police Department wants more female cops.

In fact, he wants his police force to be nearly one-third women.

To achieve this, the department is now lowering physical and eligibility requirements.

Nashville Police: Make changes to accommodate more women

Metro Nashville Police is making changes to bring more women into the force.

Something some might call a “diversity, equity, inclusion” move, more commonly called DEI.

WSMF 4 reports, “Women made up 11% of the MNPD in 2023, according to Commander Tiffany Gibson, the Metro’s first female director of training at the Metropolitan Police Department’s Training Academy.”

“As of February 2024, Commander Gibson said MNPD numbers showed women made up 13% of the total Metro police force, approaching the 30% goal,” the article notes.

Lactation rooms for breastfeeding mothers, more flexible hours and changes to physical tests are among the changes made by the MNPD to help attract new recruits, especially women. Added to this is the already paid maternity leave and sick leave, according to Commander Gibson…

All the changes are to attract MNPD interns like Kaitlyn Dalena.

“It’s a male-dominated profession,” Dalena said, “So women are afraid to take that step maybe thinking they’re not capable of doing it, but you can do it if you have the right mindset.”

Dalena is one of four women in her class at the Police Training Academy who will graduate in April. Both she and new officers like Emma Long say they hope the changes will lead to more women joining them on patrol and beyond.

DEI lowers standards

It’s good to have more women in most fields, including law enforcement.

But is it appropriate to lower standards? What else could “modification of physical test” mean?

It’s one thing to appreciate and promote diversity.

Another is to possibly lower the quality of services provided, especially when it comes to something as important as police work.

And if this happens in Nashville, Tennessee, imagine what could happen in blue states like California?

The left was screaming “defund the police.” Now it seems they just want to belittle them.
