Donald Trump said Monday that Israel must “end” the war in Gaza and that the country “needs to be very careful” because it is “losing a lot of support.”

The former president and presumptive Republican 2024 nominee made the remarks in an interview with an Israeli news outlet.

“It’s a very bad picture for the world”

Trump made his comments soon after Israel canceled a delegates’ visit to Washington, DC.

Politico reports: “The presumptive Republican nominee’s comments come as Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu recalled an Israeli delegation that was due to visit Washington after the United States allowed a resolution calling for a ceasefire to be passed at the Security Council of the United Nations”.

“Trump’s remarks also come as President Joe Biden’s administration has become increasingly critical of Israel’s planned military offensive in Rafah, the southern Gaza city where more than 1 million Palestinians have sought refuge from the conflict.”

Politico’s story continued:

In an interview with Israel Hayom, a publication owned by the family of the late conservative real estate mogul Sheldon Adelson, Trump suggested he would act much like the Israeli government in the aftermath of the Oct. 7 attack by Hamas militants . But he also said Israel made “a big mistake” with photos and images of bombs dropped on Gaza that helped push public opinion against the war.

“I wanted to call [Israel] and say don’t do it,” Trump told the outlet. “These photos and these shots. I mean, moving shots of bombs being dropped on buildings in Gaza. And I said, Oh, that’s a terrible portrait. That’s a bad image for the world”.

Trump – who has called himself “the most pro-Israeli president ever” – has already suggested the need for a quick end to the war in Gaza.

Trump on the war between Israel and Hamas: “Many people are dying”

Trump said of the conflict in November: “So there’s a war going on and you’re probably going to have to let this one play out. You will probably have to let things go on because a lot of people are dying.

“There is no hatred comparable to that of the Palestinians towards Israel and the Jewish people. And probably the opposite too, I don’t know,” she added.

Trump concluded: “You know, it’s not that obvious, but it’s probably that too. So sometimes you have to let things unfold and you have to see where it ends.
