WiCyS+ISC2 certified in CybersecuritySM spring certification camp on March 25, 2024. This initiative aims to support underrepresented populations in accessing cybersecurity training and certifications. The program offers an entry-level certification, Certificate in Cybersecurity (CC)with no prerequisites or prior work experience required, making it accessible to IT professionals, career changers, college students, and even college graduates.
As the cybersecurity talent gap persists, the WiCyS+ ISC2 spring camp will train participants in five security domains: (1) security principles, (2) business continuity, disaster recovery and incident response concepts, (3) access control concepts, (4) network security, and (5) security operations. The program runs from May 1, 2024 to June 1, 2024.
“Entering the field of cybersecurity can be daunting and confusing,” said Lynn Dohm, executive director of WiCyS. “The Certified in Cybersecurity certification will help women and other underrepresented groups launch their cyber careers in an inclusive and supportive environment alongside their peers and mentors. We have no doubt that the program will be immensely beneficial to these individuals as they prepare to launch a new career”.
Participants will have access to ISC2 online self-study training for CC, a WiCyS mentor, an ISC2 technical mentor, and open office hours to answer curriculum-related questions and resolve any issues. The top three participants, based on exam scores, experience and application essays, will receive scholarships to the 2025 WiCyS Annual Conference.
“The cybersecurity industry needs strong, well-trained professionals, as well as those who can bring a fresh perspective to the table, and Spring Camp will help make that effort happen,” said Dwan Jones, director, diversity, equity and inclusion at ISC2. . “Our program helps entry-level professionals gain the solid cybersecurity foundation that employers seek and develop new skills that they can apply in their daily work. Ultimately, these professionals will help build a strong cybersecurity workforce and inclusive, helping to address growing threats and making us all safer and more secure.”
