A sitting federal judge has taken the extraordinary step of warning of tyranny after Donald Trump’s attacks on Judge Juan Merchan and his family overseeing the criminal silence case.
“It’s very disconcerting that someone would make comments about a judge, and it’s especially problematic when those comments take the form of a threat, especially if they’re directed at one’s family,” US District Judge Reggie Walton told Kaitlan Collins on CNN The source. “We do this work because we are committed to the rule of law and believe in the rule of law, and the rule of law can only work effectively when we have judges ready to carry out their duties without any threat.” of potential physical harm.â€
This might be a good time to remind everyone that over the course of his career, Walton has been appointed by Republican presidents including George W. Bush, George H. W. Bush, and Ronald Reagan.
“I think it’s important, to preserve our democracy, to maintain the rule of law,” Walton stressed. “And the rule of law can only be maintained if we have independent judicial officers who are able to do their jobs and ensure that the laws are effectively enforced and that the laws are applied fairly to everyone who appears in our court. â€

Walton explained the importance of speaking out, warning that without a viable justice system, we have tyranny.
“I think it’s important that, as judges, we speak up and say things in reference to things that will presumably impact the trial, because if we don’t have a viable justice system that can function efficiently, then we have tyranny. And we don’t I think it would be good for the future of our country and for the future of democracy in our country.”
Donald Trump is prohibited from publicly targeting witnesses, prosecutors, jurors and court staff in the silence case, but that hasn’t stopped him from targeting the judge and his daughter.
You know Donald Trump. He is the man who will target someone’s child with stochastic terrorism if he thinks it will allow him to buy something he wants. And that’s how the former president attacked Judge Merchan’s daughter.
Trump has been told by the limited gag order in the Manhattan district attorney’s criminal case against him that he cannot speak about the district attorney’s staff, court personnel, witnesses, jurors, or lawyers and their staff. But he *can* talk about the DA and the judge.
And the judge’s family.
“Former President Donald Trump lashed out at Manhattan Judge Juan Merchan and his daughter, ***** Merchan, once again Thursday — an attack that comes just weeks before Trump’s first criminal trial and two days after that the judge issued a limited gag order in the case,” Forbes reported (original quote edited to remove daughter’s name).
Forbes continued: “Trump deepened his scrutiny of Merchan’s daughter, identifying her by name and saying she is a “rabid Trump hater, who admitted to having had conversations with her father about me,” though the former president has provided no information. evidence to support his claim.”
“The former president said Merchan’s daughter works for President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris, extending a criticism he made on Truth Social earlier this week by pointing out that she worked as an executive at a political consulting firm progressive, Authentic Campaigns, which Biden is a client of, according to the firm’s website.
Joyce Alene pointed out, “When Trump paints a target on a judge’s back, his followers respond. He knows it. His followers have repeatedly demonstrated their propensity for threats and even violence, as when a Texas woman threatened to kill Judge Chutkan.

Lest anyone think this is hyperbole (which would require us to forget about January 6, the caravan lies, and so much more), remember that Republican Senator Mitt Romney paid $5,000 a day to protect his family from the voters of his party after the insurrection. . Furthermore:
“Other Republicans were warned against voting to convict Trump in the second impeachment with echoes of terrorism in effect: ‘Think about your personal safety,’ said another. Think about your children’”.
THINK ABOUT YOUR CHILDREN. This is the world Republicans are willing to operate in, who cede power to this dangerous anti-American inciter of a terrorist attack on the United States government, because they are AFRAID.
These elected Republicans are not heroes; rather, they are the worst kinds of cowards: people who knowingly allow this man to continue targeting other people’s families as long as his own is safe.
If Donald Trump is not expressly prohibited from turning his violent supporters against anyone, he will. This is the man to whom the Republican Party has ceded all control and power. They can safely unleash it against the United States and its people, as long as they themselves are not targeted.
