The US House has reportedly imposed a strict ban on the use of of Microsoft Corp MSFT Co-pilot AI chatbot from its congressional staff.
What happened: This decision comes on the heels of the federal government’s ongoing efforts to manage the domestic use of artificial intelligence and at the same time work on regulating this emerging technology, Axios reported.
The Administrative Director of the Chamber, Caterina Szpindornotified congressional offices that Microsoft Copilot is “not authorized for home use.”
The Office of Cybersecurity has identified Copilot as a potential leak risk of Chamber data to cloud services not approved by the Chamber.

As a result, Copilot will be removed and blocked on all House Windows devices.
Microsoft is working to address these concerns by launching a suite of government-focused tools later this year, designed to meet the federal government’s security and compliance requirements.

Because matter: This move by the U.S. House is the latest in a series of actions taken by government bodies and large corporations to address the potential risks associated with AI-powered chatbots.
Previously, in 2023, The Apple company. internal use of. prohibited ChatGPT by OpenAI and other artificial intelligence tools. This was followed by a similar move by Alphabet Inc.’s Google in June 2023.
These actions reflect growing data security and privacy concerns surrounding AI-powered chatbots, prompting organizations to reevaluate their use of these technologies.
Meanwhile, the White House has introduced a comprehensive policy to address potential risks associated with the use of artificial intelligence (AI) in federal agencies. The new policy, released Thursday, mandates federal agencies to appoint a head of AIdisclose your use of artificial intelligence and implement protective measures.
