Tapachula, on the border with Guatemala, is where many migrants leave hoping to reach the United States.
The difficulty of obtaining visas for the United States and the economic consequences of the Covid lockdowns have led to a sharp increase in Chinese people showing up at the US-Mexico border.
The other migrants on the boat, seven women and a man from China, were all dead, the statement said, adding that they had not been officially identified.
