Alvin Bragg lashes out at Trump as he calls for expanded gag order

Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg said everyone knows what Trump is doing, as he called for the former president’s gag order to be expanded.

The Manhattan district attorney’s office wrote in a document:

The defendant’s dangerous, violent, and reprehensible rhetoric fundamentally threatens the integrity of these proceedings and is intended to intimidate both witnesses and trial participants, including this Court. The People therefore submit this memorandum in further support of our March 28 request that the Court (1) clarify or confirm that its March 26, 2024 order limiting out-of-court statements protects the Court’s family members, the district attorney, and all others individuals mentioned in the order; and (2) warn the defendant that his recent conduct is contumacious and order the defendant to immediately desist from attacks against family members.

To the extent that the original March 26 order did not already prohibit this conduct, this Court may do so
and should clarify or extend the Order to Protect Family Members of the Court on the documentation described below, and should warn the defendant that any future failure to comply with the Order will result in sanctions under Judiciary Law § 750(A)(3) and 751 .

There is no constitutional right to target this Court’s family, let alone the blatant falsehoods that have served as the flimsiest pretext for the defendant’s attacks. The defendant knows what he is doing, and everyone else knows too. And we all know exactly what the defendant means because for decades he has said that it is part of his philosophy of life to prosecute his perceived adversaries “as viciously and violently as possible.”5 He has said for decades that he attacks his perceived adversaries “fiercely” and “violently,” both “because it feels good and because other people will see you do it.” I AM FOLLOWING YOU!†7 He is keeping that promise right now.

The gag order needs to be expanded. By attacking the judge’s daughter, Trump is trying to threaten and intimidate the judge. District Attorney Bragg was right. We all understand what Trump’s game is. The former president is trying to disrupt and distort the trial so that justice cannot be done.

Donald Trump’s criminal trial begins in a couple of weeks and the court must act to stop him from tainting the proceedings.

Trump has shown what he is capable of, so it’s time for the court to shut him down.
