From Stanford Report (Chelcey Adami) dated January 25, 2024, regarding a Stanford Faculty Senate meeting:
Multiple [faculty] senators asked for more details about when university leadership should speak on an issue, and Graduate School of Business Dean Jonathan Levin said issuing a statement with absolute moral clarity immediately after an incident does not reflect how l he university wants its students to take action.
“I think it’s the wrong model for our students, and it actually undermines our core educational mission…,” Levin said. “We want them to think slowly, listen to different people, weigh things carefully, and we should model that and focus after an event in the world to listen and learn.”
Thanks to James Creigh and Steve McGuire for the pointer.
