House Oversight Committee Ranking Member Rep. Jamie Raskin (D-MD) laid out how Chairman James Comer is helping Russia attack America with disinformation.
What did Jamie Raskin write to James Comer about his use of Russian propaganda?
Raskin wrote to Comer regarding his latest allegations that the CIA blocked a Justice Department investigation into Hunter Biden:
Even more troubling to me is this suspicious and telling fact: While the American public and the media have learned to treat the series of bombshells in this investigation with appropriate skepticism and caution, your letter and its unverified claims were quickly picked up and cheerfully amplified by Sputnik, a state-funded and state-directed Russian media outlet that, according to the State Department, “plays[s] an important role within Russia’s disinformation and propaganda ecosystem,” “using the guise of conventional international media to provide disinformation and propaganda support for the Kremlin’s foreign policy objectives.” A perfectly timely and indisputable Sputnik article — titled “CIA Protects Biden by Blocking IRS Interviews, Ex-Whistleblower Says” — includes direct quotes and quotes from your letter.
Always eager to add meat to your allegations, Sputnik, in its article, also obtained statements supporting your latest claims from two discredited Trump World figures: Bradley Birkenfeld, a Rudy Giuliani associate deeply involved in spreading allegations about Hunter Biden during the 2020 elections; and Keith Ablow, a psychiatrist and
former Fox News contributor who briefly treated Hunter Biden before his professional license was revoked following allegations of sexual exploitation of his own patients. One can only watch in amazement at how quickly Sputnik identified these Trump World commentators

So, once again, the Committee’s farcical, rudderless impeachment journey – fodder for late-night talk show hosts and an oft-cited factor by observers trying to explain why so many of your Republican colleagues are resigning from their placed in the middle of this situation. the historic “don’t do” Congress runs aground on the familiar sandbar of Russian propaganda and the well-orchestrated mutterings of discredited and disgraced stooges in Trump’s world.

Despite this torrent of official warnings and findings about Russian intelligence efforts to smear President Biden, you have greedily and (charitably speaking) naively used our Committee to promote ludicrous allegations rooted in disinformation and foreign propaganda. In particular, you have time and again denied the Democratic members of the Committee any opportunity to examine or even review the information you have received, and you have failed to
provide any account of its procurement.

Meanwhile, the Committee’s otherwise failed and ridiculous impeachment inquiry has taken on its final starring role on earth: as a highly regarded and regularly publicized event in the theater of Russian propaganda and disinformation. While the American press, from CNN to Fox News, now ignores or mocks the nonsense and antics of this conspiracy theory-filled journey to nowhere, Sputnik and RT, another state-owned and directed Russian media outlet that serves as propaganda and disinformation arm of the Kremlin – have published numerous stories about Hunter Biden and this Committee’s impeachment inquiry, many of which, I regret to say, quote directly and generously or quote from your own statements and speculations as President. We continue to waste millions of dollars of American taxpayer money to feed unfounded rumors and gossip to Russian propaganda that promotes lies about our country.
Can James Comer be criminally charged for his use of Russian propaganda?
The short answer is no. Chairman Comer cannot be accused of using his position on the House Oversight Committee to base an impeachment investigation of President Biden on Russian disinformation. Comer is protected by the fact that his actions and statements are made in his capacity as a member of Congress. Unless there is evidence that Comer is acting as a foreign agent of Russia or committing a crime, nothing can be done about this abuse of power.
President Comer plans to use Russian disinformation to attack President Biden while acting like a useful idiot for Putin’s attack on the United States in the Russian leader’s campaign to undermine democracy around the world.
There is no law preventing Americans from promoting Russian propaganda. James Comer now knows that his investigation is based on Russian disinformation and seems unconcerned that he is harming his home country because he is only interested in putting Donald Trump back in the White House.
The entire Republican Party has adopted Trump’s 2016 agenda of using Russian disinformation to gain or attempt to maintain power.
As Congressman Raskin noted, Comer and his investigation are now tools of Russian propaganda.
