Elon Musk expressed dismay at the lack of photo ID to vote in 42 of 50 U.S. states on Monday.
What happened: In a post on X, formerly Twitter, the Tesla Inc The CEO said: “This is crazy, as it makes it impossible to detect fraud.”
Musk’s post was in response to a post by @EndWokeness, which argued that the absence of voter ID laws makes it impossible to detect voter fraud.
Social media user Musk reacted by also highlighting a list of countries that require the use of photo IDs to vote, including the UK, Italy, Chile and others.

Because matter: This post from Musk comes amid a surge in voter registrations without photo IDs in key states, a development he previously described as “extremely concerning.” The states in question included Arizona, Texas and Pennsylvania.
Earlier in the year, Musk revealed he was not committed to the Biden-Trump race, but indicated he was distancing himself from the president Joe Biden and former president Donald Trump, who were the favorites in the 2024 presidential election.
Most recently, Musk responded to comments made by the independent presidential candidate, Robert F. Kennedy Jr, criticize the president Joe Biden’s policies. He agreed with Kennedy’s statement that Biden “doesn’t really know what’s going on.”
