Frank Pavone: President Trump’s statement on abortion policy paves the way for a culture of life in a divided nation | The Gateway Expert

President Donald Trump today released his long-awaited statement on how he will pursue abortion policy when re-elected.

I was happy with the announcement because it was honest, it paves the way for a frank debate on abortion, and I am confident that it will ultimately – provided Americans bring it back to the White House – lead to the abolition of abortion.

The statement was consistent with what he has always said and what I have said: we will work for policies that help women have children, we will expose Democrats’ extremism on abortion, and we will continue to work with the American people to use the legislative process to shape abortion policy.

As I recently stated in my speech at Mar-a-Lago, President Trump has been, and will once again be, the most pro-life president our country has ever seen. He has not wavered on any of the pro-life positions or executive actions he has taken (including defunding the abortion industry from federal funds), or the judges he has appointed, and we will see such progress again in a second term.

President Trump is rightly proud of his role in turning the tide Roe v. Wade. Roe prevented the American people from protecting the unborn. Now we can protect them again, and we are doing so.

Invoking “the will of the people,” President Trump emphasizes the fact that the courts are not here to enforce the dogma of abortion on demand. Rather, the courts should step aside so that people can have an open and honest debate about abortion. This is what we will continue to do.

President Trump’s announcement today on Truth Social calls to mind the writing of the United States Constitution at a time when slavery was still legal. The Founders understood that they could not get the Constitution ratified if it contained an absolute position against slavery. They needed to restart the nation.

But with the Constitution they adopted, they put in place the very mechanism through which slavery was effectively abolished.

We are in that same moment now.

President Trump is taking a position similar to that of the Founders. They had to found a nation; we must save the nation by winning this election. Right now we have a nation divided over abortion. But by saving the nation itself from destruction by the Democrats – by saving the Constitution, free and fair elections, free speech and religion, and stopping Democratic extremism on abortion – we will effectively preserve the very mechanism by which we we can continue to build a culture of life.

I thank the President for his statement but I do not expect him to do my job; I expect him to do what he does. My task and that of the pro-life movement is to define the absolute morality of the right to life, which does not allow compromises. No abortion can ever be justified.

Pro-life leaders, meeting recently for strategic planning, released this joint statement reflecting the pro-life work that will need to be done over the next seven months.

We look forward to continuing to work with President Trump and countless citizens to lead our nation toward ever greater fidelity to its founding principle that governments are established to preserve the inalienable right to life.
