Google gives Gemini a security boost

Gemini now has security features: Google has integrated Mandiant’s security offerings into its artificial intelligence (AI) platform, the company announced at the Google Cloud Next conference in Las Vegas.

The new capabilities are automated security agents that use generative artificial intelligence to detect, stop and remediate cybersecurity attacks as quickly as possible and to analyze code for security issues. The officers will assist the operational security teams by increasing the speed of the investigation.

“Security agents will help you at every stage of the security lifecycle, from prevention, to detection and response,” said Thomas Kurian, CEO of Google Cloud, during a keynote speech at the event.

The security offerings are built around Google’s Gemini language model, which is also used to summarize documents and generate images. New security features use generative AI to analyze code for security issues. Security analysts can run in-depth queries to find the root cause of problems and search for answers. The technology will also better explain findings so companies can take action to neutralize threats.

Google is betting its future on AI products like Gemini, introduced earlier this year. Gemini is already integrated into search and productivity applications. Mandiant’s offerings include threat detection and security operations, while Gemini adds AI capabilities to cover detection, analysis and prevention.

Using artificial intelligence to understand attacks

One of the new products, Gemini in Threat Intelligence, uses natural language instructions to gain insights into malicious behavior.

“We’re able to take the experience and intelligence we gather from protecting Google’s services, combining it with Mandiant’s front-line intelligence from their work in incident response to show emerging threats, severity and risk factors. risk,” Kurian said.

The Intelligent Threat offers links to the upcoming product, Gemini in Security Operations, which relies on artificial intelligence to improve the speed at which it addresses threats arising from malicious behavior. It can also be used to summarize and explain results, recommend next steps, and practice proofing manuals.

Gemini can recommend actions based on factors such as detection rules and provide recommendations for faster response times.

“Analysts can now ask Gemini for the latest threat intelligence provided by Mandiant directly online, including any indicators of compromise detected in their environment, and Gemini will guide users to the most relevant pages in the integrated platform for a more in-depth investigation, ” Google wrote in a blog post.

The offering uses Gemini 1.5 Pro’s AI capabilities to analyze large samples of potential malicious code or malware, the interaction between modules, and to reveal their true malicious intent, Kurian said.

The final product announced was Gemini in Security Command Center, which assesses security posture, provides findings and summarizes attack paths, helping enterprises remediate cloud risks.

“We have leveraged massive amounts of machine learning, precision AI and generative AI, to ensure our customers are able to detect, stop and remediate all cybersecurity attacks as quickly as possible,” Kurian said.

AI tools like Gemini and OpenAI’s ChatGPT are improving productivity, but hallucinations and other shortcomings are raising concerns about the irresponsible use of technology. The White House late last month released a Executive Order on the Responsible Use and Development of Artificial Intelligencewhich also recommends monitoring AI systems to prevent abuse.
