MedSec launches cybersecurity program for hospitals with limited resources

PRESS RELEASE

MIAMI, April 8, 2024/PRNewswire/ — MedSec, a leading medical device security services company, announced today that it is expanding its service offerings to include a hospital cybersecurity service called Hospital Roadmap to Resilience Program SM. The program is designed to support hospitals with limited resources in their cybersecurity journey.

Hospitals are under increasing pressure to address cybersecurity. To address the growing number of hospitals and patients affected by cybersecurity attacks, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) recently announced voluntary cybersecurity performance goals. HHS is also evaluating how to tie reimbursement to the achievement of specific cybersecurity capabilities.

“Patient safety is the top priority for hospitals. One aspect of patient safety involves taking actions to protect against cybersecurity threats,” says Debra Bruemmer, senior director of clinical security, MedSec. “Many hospitals do not have an effective cybersecurity program to protect patients from malicious cybersecurity events. This is primarily due to a lack of qualified people and funding to create and run the program. Our program can help solve this problem.”

Fundamental elements of the hospital Roadmap towards the Resilience Programme:

  • Leverage established best practices to create a foundational cybersecurity program based on policies, processes and procedures.

  • Evaluate existing tools for unused functionality that can be leveraged for security purposes.

  • Invest in a new and appropriate tool.

The Hospital Roadmap to Resilience ProgramSM enables hospitals to make informed risk decisions, understand resources and recovery needs, and manage underlying network risks,” said Michelle Jump, CEO of MedSec. “Ultimately helping hospitals to create a practical and effective security program that they can maintain even without senior security personnel.”

Bruemmer noted, “Hospitals want to do the right thing and address cybersecurity, but many simply can’t. MedSec is approaching the problem differently. The Hospital Roadmap to Resilience ProgramSM provides an actionable set of policies, processes and procedures fundamentals aligned to meet industry best practices. The program provides hospitals with limited resources a roadmap to accelerate their path to greater cybersecurity and the protection of their patients.”
