Bill Maher says he agrees with abortion being considered ‘murder’ due to overpopulation

On his Friday show, HBO host Bill Maher said he “agrees” with abortion even if opponents view it as “murder,” something he didn’t really dispute.

That’s not how most pro-choice advocates frame this debate, but Maher went right there.

His reasoning? There are already 8 billion people on the planet.

“They think it’s a murder. And in a way it is

Maher’s Real time the guests were Gillian Tett, British writer and journalist, and British expert Piers Morgan.

Maher told them and his audience that those who are pro-life are “in some sense” right that abortion is “murder.”

But then the host explained why he’s fine with it like this.

“None of you believe this was murder,” Maher said. “You know, that’s why I don’t understand the 15 week thing. Or Trump’s plan is: “Let’s leave it to the states.” You mean killing babies is okay in some states?”

He continued: “For example, I can respect the absolutist position. I really can. I chide the left when he says, “Oh, you know what, they just hate women, people who aren’t pro-life.” Pro-choice people don’t hate women. They just made it up. They think it’s murder. And in a way it is.

Maher agrees with murder because it is population control

Maher explained why he’s okay with this particular type of “murder,” as he describes it.

He also seemed to advocate it as a method of population control.

“I’m fine with that. They are,” Maher said. “I mean, there’s eight billion people in the world. I’m sorry, you won’t be missed. That’s my position on that.”

Maher’s comments came in the context of presumptive 2024 Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump recently announcing on his social media platform Truth Social that he believes regulating abortion should be left up to the states. The former president also said that IVF treatments should be kept accessible.

Trump previously criticized his own party for “mishandling” the abortion issue during the 2022 midterm elections, and said the losses suffered by various Republican candidates during that cycle were “not my fault.”
