Jelly Roll Sued by Wedding Band Jellyroll for Excessive Branding

Country star Jelly Roll, 39, is having a banner year, but a lawsuit filed last week in a Pennsylvania court claims his past reputation is causing “irreparable harm” to the local band.

A wedding band based in Chadds Ford, Penn., a city just outside Philadelphia, called “Jellyroll” is suing the country musician for trademark infringement and “unfair competition.”

The band, which has been around since the 1980s, claims to own the name trademark and has sent Jelly Roll (the country singer) and his team a cease-and-desist letter to change his stage name.

According to the lawsuit, the Jelly Roll team responded via email to discuss.

“Several conversations ensued, and at one point Defendant’s attorney asked if Defendant was indeed in competition with Plaintiff,” the lawsuit states.

But the conversations didn’t work out, and ’80s Wedding Band claims Google search results about Jelly Roll’s past they are hurting their business.

“Defendant’s continued unrepentant violation of acts and conduct will, unless enjoined by this Court, continue to cause consumer confusion, error, and deception,” reads the lawsuit, obtained by FOX Business, he claims. “Due to Defendant’s troubled past, which includes a felony conviction and imprisonment, such association as stated above has caused Plaintiff further harm among the public and industry.”

Jelly Roll was in and out of prison for 10 years starting at the age of 14 for a variety of charges including aggravated robbery, drug possession and shoplifting.
