The former Secretary of State on Friday Hillary Clintonslammed the former president Donald Trump in a scathing criticism during an appearance on a podcast hosted by Marc Elias, a Democratic elections lawyer.
On the “Defending Democracy” podcast, Clinton suggested that Trump, if re-elected, would be happy to “kill his opposition” if re-elected president.
He said Trump would prefer to crack down on his opposition in a similar way to authoritarian leaders like the Russian president Vladimir Putinaccusing Trump of admiring leaders who wield unchecked power, including jailing or exiling the opposition and journalists.
“Trump was like, you know, just excited about Putin because Putin does what Trump would like to do: kill his opposition, imprison his opposition, send journalists and others into exile, govern without any checks or balances,” Clinton said.

“This is what Trump really wants,” he added. “And so we have to be very aware of how he sees the world because, in that world, he only sees strongman leaders. He sees Putin, he sees Xi, he sees Kim Jong-un in North Korea. These are the people he’s targeting model, and we have traveled this path in the history of our world and we certainly don’t want to travel it again.”
Clinton expressed concern about the implications of Trump’s potential re-election, including the possibility of withdrawing the United States from NATO and adopting an authoritarian style of government in the United States
“Withdrawing from NATO, not caring what happens with Europe, the idea that wants Ukraine to fail. The idea that he doesn’t want us to be able to police our enemies. That’s a very scary prospect,” he said .
He highlighted his experiences negotiating with Putin and contrasted his approach with Trump’s, suggesting that Trump’s leadership could lead to negative consequences for global politics and security.
