Jennifer Coolidge is fast becoming America’s Sweetheart thanks to her award-winning performance in “The White Lotus” — but that wasn’t always the case.
The actor has been waiting in the wings of Hollywood stardom since arriving on the scene as ‘Stifler’s mom’ in ‘American Pie’ in 1999, before garnering legions of fans thanks to comedic supporting roles in ‘Legally Blonde’ and “Friends”.
But it seems that the star of “The White Lotus” has now been accepted into the Hollywood elite, showing up last night at the Golden Globes in California and then taking home the award for best actress in a limited series.
However, Coolidge used her acceptance speech to highlight her struggle to make a living in the brutal world of Hollywood, which ultimately led to her being awarded a Golden Globe.
In his usual shady style, he said: “There are five people in this room who have kept me going for 20 years with these odd jobs.
“I did not know anyone and this [acting] it was this thing that was going nowhere, and then there were these people who would give me these cute little jobs and it would be enough to get to the next and the next.
“I had big dreams and expectations as a young man, but what has happened is that they have kind of faded out of life. And then you get older and think, “Oh, what’s going to happen?”
In addition to thanking Ryan Murphy, Michael Patrick King and Reese Witherspoon, he tearfully told ‘White Lotus’ creator Mike White that he had “given [her] hope” and “changed [her] life in a million different ways.”
With casting agents at his beck and call, Coolidge was asked what was “the ultimate dream role [her] now” would be.
“I’ve always wanted to play a dolphin,” he replied.
How to carry on like Coolidge
Motivation expert Cassandra Andrews has worked with clients around the world, including Harvard University and Barclays Bank, she said: “Individuals need to consider and understand what their primary motivations are: security, belonging, doing the difference or recognition, so that we don’t get demotivated over time.
“Jennifer Coolidge’s speech is a testament to someone who is embracing their motivators. She has total clarity about what drives her and every role of hers is bringing her one step closer to her goal of hers.
“Consider what motivates you and what your mission is. If you’re feeling overwhelmed and dejected, make sure you prioritize self-care and that starts with talking compassionately to yourself.
