Verrica Pharmaceutical Products (NASDAQ: VRCA) filed a lawsuit to stop Canadian drugmaker Dormer Labs from selling drugs containing cantharidin in the United States
In the lawsuit, Verrica accused Dormer of violating federal and state law by allegedly engaging in false and misleading activities advertising and promotion of unapproved cantharidin-containing drugs. Verrica is seeking to stop Dormer from marketing, selling and distributing the drugs, as well as compensatory, statutory and punitive damages.
The FDA approved Verrica’s cantharidin drug Ycanth in July to treat molluscum contagiosum. Verrica said it is currently the only FDA-approved drug on the market containing cantharidin.
