New York Governor Kathy Hochul is trying to make it easier for illegal border crossers to find work. It’s not the first time she’s done it, but this time her efforts are much more extensive.
Illegal immigrants in New York already receive free housing, free meals, and even debit cards. Now they will be able to compete with American citizens for jobs.

Democratic Gov. Kathy Hochul (D-NY) is easing requirements in her state so illegal immigrants can quickly find jobs in the United States, taking benefits away from hard-working American citizens.
This week, Hochul endorsed a controversial proposal that would make it easier for illegal migrants to secure U.S. government jobs in New York.
“Governor Hochul has prioritized modernizing our state workforce and eliminating red tape, and has instituted a series of reforms to accomplish this goal,” a spokesperson for Hochul said in a statement. “This initiative, which has not yet been implemented, would make temporary employment opportunities available to anyone who can legally work in the United States.”
The proposal would require illegal aliens to obtain legal work authorization from the federal government. However, other requirements – such as the New York Department of Civil Service’s easing of English language proficiency requirements – would be relaxed for thousands of government jobs. An education verification and certification would also be omitted from the job title.
The aim is for “difficult-to-recruit, entry-level” jobs to become permanent for illegal migrants, who will start as temporary roles. However, agencies will have the option to make them permanent if their work is satisfactory.
