Opinion
Pennsylvania state Rep. Kevin Boyle (D) was caught on video appearing heavily intoxicated and engaged in a verbal altercation with customers and staff at a bar in Montgomery County.
Boyle was reportedly kicked out of the Gaul & Co. Malt House in Rockledge, Pennsylvania, but not before literally playing the “you know who I am” card with employees late last week.
“I can fucking finish this bar, I would if I wanted to,” the Democrat can be heard shouting. “By the way, you’re all fucking assholes.”
The Democrat, however, wasn’t done yet, as he can be heard making further threats and calling staffers “idiots,” “traitors” and “idiots.”
Boyle also accused the bartenders of being military agents and suggested he could prevent them from getting promotions in the military.
“He’s so aggressive, you can’t talk to me like that, I’m closing your fucking bar!” -she shouted coming out the door. “This bar is over, do you know who the fuck I am?”

PA state Democrats apologize for Rep. Kevin Boyle’s drunken outburst
Reports indicate that the bouncer at the bar in question had to call 911 for Boyle when he began threatening to beat up their female staff.
In a semi-funny point in the video, Boyle appears to have a brief moment of clarity and wants to make sure he pays the bill before leaving.
“Did I pay the bill?” he asked. “I don’t want to be an asshole, but I don’t want to be an asshole.”
Congratulations – you are both! And honestly, this would be a really great slogan for the next campaign.
At least he didn’t shame any family members who might have had a stake in their public appearance with his antics. Oh wait, he’s actually the brother of U.S. Rep. Brendan Boyle, also a Democrat.

What’s worse?
Democratic Representative Boyle was informed by the responding police officer that he was now barred from the bar. Pennsylvania House Democratic leaders released a statement on the issue.
“We are aware of a video circulating on social media. It’s very worrying. Rep. Boyle has been open about his personal challenges,” a spokesperson for the group wrote. “We are encouraged that our colleague and dear friend is seeking help.”
“Our commitment to providing mental health services does not stop at the steps of the Capitol,” they continue. “One of the main reasons we support access to mental health so strongly is the reality that challenges can happen to anyone, and seeking treatment should be encouraged, not stigmatized.”
I wonder if they would encourage a Republican state representative the same way if they were caught on video behaving this way.
Just last summer, Boyle co-sponsored legislation expanding access to mental health medications.
As a New Yorker, I can’t help but think that this incident is infinitely less sinister than that of disgraced former New York governor Andrew Cuomo when he literally threatened bars with being closed for failure to social distance, something that has since fictitious means to stop the spread of Covid is revealed.
In fact he called them and threatened them. By his own admission. Cuomo said he called “a couple of bars and restaurants myself when I saw photos of their situation” and “told them, ‘You’re playing with your [liquor] license.'”
The difference is that Cuomo was sober, made threats for months and… Done have the power to follow through.
Kevin Boyle may have acted like an “idiot” and an “asshole” in his own words, but at least he probably sobered up the next day.
