In South Carolina, Trump said he was intentionally confusing Nikki Haley, Nancy Pelosi and Joe Biden with Barack Obama.
Trump said:

I said, no, no, I think they both stink. They have something in common. Both remain. And remember this. When I make a statement like that about Nikki, it means she will never run for vice president. She will never run for vice president. Remember that.

Trump claims to speak in sarcastic code, so when Trump says Nikki Haley, he actually means Nancy Pelosi, unless he does, but when Trump says Barack Obama, he actually means Joe Biden, except when he doesn’t.
Donald Trump’s guiding philosophy is to never admit that he is wrong about anything, so Trump had to come up with a twisted way to suggest that he intentionally shows signs of cognitive decline.
The former president’s cover story is absurd and nonsensical, as he now appears to be campaigning by claiming that his cognitive decline is intentional.
Instead of asking Biden, the media should ask a lot of questions about Trump.
