blood pressure (NYSE:BP) plans to restart its Whiting, Indiana, refinery – the largest in the Midwest – in the last week of February and return to full production in March, Reuters reported on Wednesday.
The Whiting refinery closed on February 1 by a plant-wide power outage initially attributed to the failure of two transformers in the refinery, and BP (BP) assessed the refinery’s units and internal piping for any damage resulting from the sudden shutdown and determined the exact cause of the loss of power, according to the relationship.
Retail gasoline prices in the Chicago area have risen more than $0.20 a gallon since the refinery closed.
The Whiting refinery is BP’s largest in the United States and the sixth largest in the country overall, processing 440,000 bbl/d of crude oil and producing a variety of liquid fuels and asphalt; is the Chicago area’s largest fuel supplier.
