Nvidia (NASDAQ:) is now providing its customers with samples of two new AI chips developed for the Chinese market, company CEO Jensen Huang told Reuters on Wednesday.
“We are testing it with customers now. Both comply with the unlicensed regulation. We look forward to customer feedback on this,” Huang said in an interview.
“We expect to … compete for business and hopefully be able to serve the market successfully.”
NVDA jumped more than 14% in premarket trading Thursday after another strong earnings report.
The move is aimed at helping the chip giant maintain its leadership in the Chinese market despite US export restrictions.
Last year, chip industry newsletter SemiAnalysis reported that Nvidia was planning to launch three new chips – H20, L20 and L2 – for China.
These products reportedly incorporate Nvidia’s latest AI features but have modified computing power to adhere to US regulations.
This strategic decision comes as Nvidia faces the impact of more restrictive US export controls introduced in October, which have targeted shipments of advanced chips to China, significantly affecting Nvidia’s operations in that country.
