Presented in two waves, the campaign sought to demoralize Ukrainians and Ukrainians abroad with disinformation messages on war-related topics.

This week, ESET researchers revealed their findings on Operation Textonto, a disinformation/psychological campaign (PSYOP) in which Russian-aligned threat actors sought to demoralize Ukrainians and Ukrainians abroad with messages of disinformation on war-related topics. Presented in two waves (in November 2023 and at the end of December 2023 respectively), the two campaigns spread false information about heating outages, medicine shortages and food shortages, all typical themes of Russian propaganda.
In addition to this campaign, ESET detected a spearphishing campaign that recently targeted a Ukrainian defense company and an EU agency and attempted to steal credentials for Microsoft Office 365 accounts. Most likely PSYOPs and Phishing operations are linked to each other.
