Polls show that Donald Trump is very likely to be the Republican presidential candidate in 2024, barring unforeseen circumstances.
They also show he has a good chance of winning in November, with numerous polls showing incumbent President Joe Biden trailing by several points.
Now the question shifts to the Republican ticket: who will Trump choose as his running mate?
He talked about it recently.

Vice President Tim Scott?
Trump says Sen. Tim Scott of South Carolina is on his shortlist as his running mate.
Politico reports: “Former President Donald Trump suggested Tuesday that at least a half-dozen names are on his list of vice presidents — a list ranging from South Carolina Sen. Tim Scott to Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis to former U.S. Rep. Hawaii Tulsi Gabbard”.
Gabbard, alone among these names, was a Democrat elected as a congressman from Hawaii.
“During a Fox News town hall event, host Laura Ingraham asked Trump for six possible choices for his running mate: DeSantis, Scott, biotech entrepreneur and former Republican presidential candidate Vivek Ramaswamy, Florida Rep. Byron Donalds , South Dakota Governor Kristi Noem and Gabbard,” Politico noted.
The story continued:
“Is everyone on your list?” she asked.
“They are,” Trump said, before adding: “Honestly all those people are good. They’re all good, they’re all solid.
Trump is known to speak off the cuff and it would be surprising if he chose DeSantis. Trump and DeSantis spent a year taunting each other before DeSantis dropped out of the presidential race after a disappointing second place in the Iowa caucuses. DeSantis, however, has since endorsed Trump. Trump also stopped attacking the governor and retired the nickname “DeSanctimonious” he had given him.
Trump gave Scott, who was in the audience, the highest praise Tuesday night. Scott, who dropped out of the Republican primary last year and later endorsed Trump, campaigned aggressively for Trump in his home state ahead of the Feb. 24 primary in South Carolina.

Scott campaigns harder for Trump than for himself
Trump would add of Scott, as he pointed to the senator: “A lot of people talk about that gentleman over there. He was a great supporter.
“I have to say this very positively, Tim Scott, he was much better for me than he was for himself,” Trump continued. “I looked at his campaign and he doesn’t like to talk about himself. But guys, he’s talking about Trump. … I called him and said, ‘Tim, you’re better for me than you were for yourself.’”
Tim Scott has been an outspoken supporter of Donald Trump.
And it would probably be a good choice to partner with the next president, should his candidate win.
