Former Rep. Tim Ryan (D-OH) said Trump is getting preferential treatment because the Supreme Court is sending the message that he is above the law.
Ryan told Real Time with Bill Maher:
The question isn’t whether you think he’s guilty or not, or I think he’s guilty or someone thinks he’s guilty.
Is he above the law and receiving preferential treatment because of his identity? Because if you’re Joe, what the hell
ragamuffin in Youngstown Ohio, guess what? Your ass will be tried and you will go to prison and that will be it
This will probably happen rather quickly, and therefore he will receive preferential treatment, every signal the Supreme Court sends is that he is above the law and no citizen should agree to this.

Tim Ryan was right. At this stage it is not about guilt or innocence. This is something for juries to decide. The question is more fundamental. Trump claims the special privilege of being above the law because he is a former president, and the Supreme Court, because he is a former president, is willing to consider the question of whether Donald Trump is a king and is above the law .
This whole farce is absurd and goes against the nation’s founding principles, but the Supreme Court is already sending the message that Donald Trump is above the law, and that fact should infuriate every American who believes in and seeks to protect democracy. .
