Speaking in Alabama, Vice President Kamala Harris struck a tougher tone toward Israel, while calling for more aid to Gaza and an immediate ceasefire.
Vice President Harris stated in Selma, AL:
Yesterday the Department of Defense carried out the first drop of humanitarian aid. And the United States will continue these airdrops and we will work on a new sea route to deliver aid. And the Israeli government must do more to significantly increase the flow of aid.
No excuses.

They have to open new border crossings. They must not impose unnecessary restrictions on the provision of aid. They must ensure that humanitarian personnel, sites and convoys are not targeted. And they must work to restore basic services and promote order in Gaza so that more food, water and fuel can arrive.
The vice president also called for an immediate ceasefire: “Given the immense scale of suffering in Gaza, there must be an immediate ceasefire.”

It appears the Biden administration is getting to the right place. The United States should be the world’s leading defender of human rights. The administration has been putting private pressure on Netanyahu over Gaza for months. He ignored them, so now they become public.
The White House may not be able to stop Netanyahu, but it can help Gaza’s suffering population, and it’s a safe bet that if Netanyahu doesn’t stop, cutting military aid will be on the table.
