Rachel Maddow said that it will be the American people, not the courts, who will defeat Trump and save democracy.
Rachel Maddow said:
I’ll just leave you with this. Here, there is no magic, there is no solution that will come from the Supreme Court. The Supreme Court did us the favor of reminding us of this today when it ruled that Trump will remain on the ballot across the country. They reminded us of that reminder today, after last week, they made sure we knew it in the first place when they, someone inexplicably, acted to delay all Trump criminal trials except the one they couldn’t stop until after the election .
No magic wand will come to stop this thing. There are no magic beans you can grow here that will produce a bean stalk that will take us away from all of this. There is only one way out of this choice. The Democratic Party has chosen its candidate. Yes, he is an old man who is doing practical, normal and popular things as president and who has a lot to show, especially in terms of how well things have been going economically since he has been at the helm. The Republican Party is obviously choosing his guy too. Even an old man who, for example, cannot pronounce the word Venezuela and who has no idea who the current president of the United States is who currently rides his party’s abortion and measles bans, a curious virological denier of free association. He’s trying to warm up the American people to the idea of a little dictatorship from him and he’s getting us ready to start building camps to hold millions because his advisors say the deportations start at noon on the first day.
The courts will not help, the law will be an obstacle to the main decision. You will make this decision. The only way that decision is going to be made is to pick one, volunteer and donate and campaign and decide that it’s important enough for you to not just vote but help, help your candidate try to win the Republican Party. Really, it’s really great right now. But the only thing that will stop them is the victory of the Democrats, period.

For a long time, at least going back to Mueller, some in the media sold the left the idea that the courts would stop Trump. One day, Trump may very well be criminally convicted, but the courts operate on a different schedule than the election calendar, so there is no certainty that Donald Trump will ever be convicted.
The only way Donald Trump can ever be stopped is if a majority of voters vote against him. Ballot boxes are not as flashy as a court case and require work from all of us, but they are the most effective way to save democracy in the United States.
It will not be a court, a judge or a prosecutor who will save the situation.
You, your friends and your relatives will save democracy by defeating Donald Trump.
