Opinion
A new poll shows that 48% of younger voters say they would support Donald Trump “if the election were held today” and 52% indicated they would vote for Joe Biden.
Trump is still behind Biden, but he is closer than he has ever been with this demographic of voters.

Trump is approaching young voters
The survey was conducted by Axios and Generation Lab, among 1,073 US adults surveyed between the ages of 18 and 34.
According to the Pew Research Center, Gen Z and millennial voters voted for Biden by twenty points over Trump in the 2020 presidential election.
Obviously 20 is a spread greater than four.
However, some urge caution. Neil O’Brian, a political scientist at the University of Oregon, told Axios: “We don’t know enough yet. But this idea that young people will continue to populate the Democratic Party? There are some question marks about it.”
Axios noted, “Gen Z and millennial voters were key to Biden’s 2020 victory, turning out in large numbers and favoring him by 20 points in 2020, according to a Pew Research Center analysis.” Furthermore, “polls show that Biden’s staunch support for Israel has hurt him among younger voters.”
Biden does slightly better with poll participants who say they definitely plan to vote in November. The poll showed that of 42% of those who said they would definitely vote, 63% of them supported Biden.
Perhaps it’s no coincidence that Trump’s rise among younger voters correlates with respondents indicating that the economy is a key issue. Thirty-nine percent of survey participants said the economy was the top issue, followed by abortion at 16% and student debt and immigration both at 11%.
10% are the most worried about climate change. 7% mentioned firearms.

Age is a factor
Some were unhappy with the overall age of their party’s most likely candidates.
“I’m incredibly disappointed with how old he is [the candidates] they are,” said David Place, a 25-year-old from Stratford, Connecticut, who plans to vote for Trump.”
“I will say that Biden’s age and how it affects him is much more noticeable to people than Trump’s,” Place said.
Rachel Domdera, a sophomore at Ohio State and Biden supporter, said, “I’m not necessarily enthusiastic about either candidate, but I know it’s my civic duty to vote… I like Biden’s environmental policies better and his views on abortion.”
The elections are still many months away and a lot could happen.
But right now, Donald Trump appears to be moving closer to Joe Biden in one of his key demographics than ever before.
Now is the time to support and share the sources you trust.
