While some recent nationwide polls show that Pres Joe Biden taking a slight lead over its predecessor Donald TrumpThe results of a poll released on Friday show that the latter still wields influence in the key conflict state of North Carolina.
What happened: When North Carolina voters were asked to choose between Biden and Trump as their potential choice for president, 49% expressed their support for Trump compared to 43% who supported Biden. Eight percent of respondents said they were undecided, according to a survey of 625 registered voters in North Carolina conducted by the independent firm Mason-Dixon Polling & Strategy, The Hill reported.
The poll conducted between April 9 and 13 had a margin of error of +/- four percentage points.
Biden’s weaker result has to do with some discontent in his own party, with only 80% of Democrats choosing him over Trump. On the other hand, Trump received the support of 93% of Republican voters. Additionally, Trump has an eight-point lead over Biden among unaffiliated voters.
Trump leads by as much as 30 points in Western North Carolina, but Biden leads Trump by 18 points in the Triangle area around Raleigh and Durham, and is more narrowly ahead in the Charlotte metro area.
Trump has more support among men, while more women currently support Biden. About 61% of white voters support Trump, but Biden is favored by 80% of Black voters in the state.

Will North Carolina roll over? The Hill Report found that no Democratic presidential candidate has won in North Carolina since then Barack Obama in 2008. Trump won the state in both 2016 and 2020.
Biden’s campaign views North Carolina as a possible game-changer, the report said. Democratic governor Roy Cooper said this week that Biden has a chance of winning the state, given the campaign’s substantial investments there. However, she acknowledged that a “relentless effort” would be needed to reach the necessary voters by November.
The results are similar to those of a March survey conducted in the state by Marist. In a two-way contest, Trump led Biden by a 51% to 48% margin among registered voters in North Carolina. The former president also leads state voters who said they will definitely vote in the Nov. 5 election. A Quinnipiac University A poll of registered voters conducted in early April showed Trump had 48% support in North Carolina compared to Biden’s 46%.
Given the limited results in various national and state polls, undecided voters are believed to play a crucial role in determining the outcome of both candidates. Georgia and North Carolina, along with Michigan, Pennsylvania, Arizona, Nevada and Wisconsin, are all considered swing states in the current general election.
