California is competing for the title of best place to flee to illegally in the United States with what seems to be an endless list of state-funded benefits for illegal immigrants. A Fresno-area lawmaker’s latest effort is aimed at providing a home loan benefit to first-time homebuyers who entered the country illegally.

With the dream of homeownership slipping through the fingers of young American families, this possible addition could make it even harder for Californians to get the benefits their tax dollars pay for. The question that should be at the top of every legal The minds of California citizens should be the reason California legislators want to make the influx of illegal immigrants into their state more attractive.

The non-American dream

Rep. Joaquin Arambula has introduced a bill to expand eligibility for a California state loan program to include illegal immigrants. The current program, the California Dream for All Shared Appreciation Loan, offers first-time homebuyers a loan worth 20% of the purchase price.

The loan does not accrue interest and does not require monthly payments. When the buyer sells his home, he is required to repay the loan plus 20% of the increase in the value of the home.

Initially intended for low- and middle-income Californians, Arambula says it should also be available to illegal immigrants living in the state.

Mr Arambula explains:

“Homeownership has historically been the primary means of accumulating generational wealth in the United States. The social and economic benefits of homeownership should be accessible to all.”

Not everyone in California is thrilled with the idea of legal California citizens having to compete for a state-funded home loan with illegal immigrants. State Senator Brian Dahle counters with this argument, stating that this addition to the original bill is:

“…an insult to the citizens of California who are being left behind and deprived of homeownership. I am all for helping first time homebuyers, but I prioritize those who were legally here in our state.

However, prioritizing California citizens is not on Governor Gavin Newsom’s agenda.

Escape to the Golden State!

California has approved an incredible amount of state-funded benefits for illegal immigrants in recent years. In addition to being eligible for in-state tuition and financial aid for state schools, illegal immigrants in California also receive health care courtesy of California taxpayers.

Governor Newsom recently expanded a 2015 program that included illegal immigrant children in the state’s version of Medicaid to include adults over age 50. Treatments would include sex and hormone reassignment surgeries paid for by California citizens at an estimated cost of $3.1 billion.

The state also has a monthly income program for illegal immigrants called the Immigrant Cash Assistance Program, or CAPI. The program is a:

“…100% state-funded program designed to provide monthly cash benefits to elderly, blind, and disabled noncitizens who are not eligible for Supplemental Security Income/State Supplemental Payment (SSI/SSP) solely because of their status as immigrant.”

The wording is interesting in the above; instead of calling these individuals illegal immigrants, California rebrands them as “noncitizens” or classifies them as if they were blocked due to some administrative error using the phrase “due to their immigration status.”

Mr. Arambula does the same with the language in his home loan bill update:

“…an applicant under the program will not be disqualified based solely on his or her immigration status.”

What state is this exactly? With advantages like these it is no wonder that individuals near and far flock to our southern border without regard for our laws.

Why follow the rules when you can break them and get more benefits than the rule followers and real citizens who pay the bill for those same benefits?
