Check Point CEO Gil Shwed has announced his intention to step down from his role after 30 years at the helm of the cybersecurity company.
In the company latest financial statementShwed said the time is right to focus on the Israeli security provider’s evolution and its next phase, and that he intends to move into the role of executive chairman “charting the future of Check Point and the cybersecurity market.”
“We are beginning the succession process to hire a new CEO, and once complete, I will transition to my new position as Executive Chairman. I am excited to enter 2024 with a great technology pipeline and a global team fully energized and ready to deliver a future bright and safe to our customers,” he said.
Co-founded in 1993 by Shwed, Marius Nacht and Shlomo Kramer, who are no longer with the company, Check Point’s initial technology was built on the concept of Stateful Inspection. This became the basis for the company’s first major product, FireWall-1.
