Elon Musk took drugs with Tesla board members: report

Elon Musk’s use of illegal drugs was known to many of the current and former directors of Tesla Inc. and SpaceX, the Wall Street Journal reported Saturday.

There was concern about the volume of illegal drug use by Musk and whether he used drugs with some of his board members, the newspaper reported, citing people who witnessed the drug use or were told about it . The committee did not investigate the matter, nor did it document any concerns, the newspaper said.

The relationship between Musk and his directors was criticized this week by a Delaware judge, who cited the board’s conflicts of interest in his ruling that Musk’s $55 billion pay package was excessive.

Musk and his lawyer, Alex Spiro, did not respond to requests for comment from the WSJ. The newspaper previously reported that Musk had used LSD, cocaine, ecstasy and psychedelic mushrooms, often at private parties. Spiro told the WSJ in that report that Musk was regularly and randomly subjected to drug tests at SpaceX and had never failed a test.

Some friends and filmmakers felt they had to take illegal drugs with Musk because otherwise they might upset him, the newspaper reported Saturday, citing people. They also didn’t want to risk “losing the social capital” that came with being in his circle, the paper said.

Musk responded on X to last month’s WSJ article about his alleged drug use.

“Whatever I am doing, I should obviously continue to do it!” Moss published on X, citing Tesla and SpaceX as the most valuable automotive and space companies in the world. “If medications actually helped improve my net productivity over time, I would definitely take them!”

Musk oversees six companies: Tesla, SpaceX and X, the social media company formerly known as Twitter; tunneling firm The Boring Co.; developer of Neuralink brain implants; and artificial intelligence startup xAI.
