“Former Cornell student pleads guilty to posting online threats against Jewish students on campus”

Wednesday from the Department of Justice:

Patrick Dai, 21, a former Cornell University student and native of Pittsford, New York, pleaded guilty today to posting threats to kill or injure another person using interstate communications….

As part of his guilty plea, Dai admitted that on October 28 and 29, 2023, he posted threatening messages in the Cornell section of an online discussion forum, including posts that said “I will shoot up West 104” (a dining hall a Cornell University which caters predominantly to the Kosher diet and is located next door to the Cornell Jewish Center which provides residential housing for students) and will “bomb the Jewish Home”. In another post, Dai threatened to “stab” and “slit the throat” of any Jewish man he saw on campus, to rape and throw every Jewish woman he saw off a cliff, and to behead all Jewish children. In the same post, Dai threatened to “bring an assault rifle to campus and shoot all you Jewish pigs.”

The sentencing hearing is scheduled for August 12. Dai faces a maximum sentence of five years in prison, a fine of up to $250,000, restitution to the victims and a maximum of three years of supervised release. A federal district court judge will determine the sentence after considering U.S. Sentencing Guidelines and other legal factors.
