AT&T (NYSE:T) announced Friday that former Google (GOOG) (GOOGL) executive and Yahoo CEO Marissa Mayer has been named to the telecommunications company’s board of directors, effective immediately.
Will be responsible for audit and business development and Financial committees.
Mayer is currently the CEO of Sunshine Products, a tech start-up she co-founded in 2018, that focuses on cleaning a person’s digital contacts.
“Mayer’s extensive experience in technology and his deep understanding of how consumers experience and interact with the Internet will be a valuable addition to the board,” AT&T Chairman Bill Kennard said in a statement.
Mayer’s joining AT&T’s board of directors marks a return of sorts to the telecommunications industry for the 48-year-old technology executive. Under his leadership, Yahoo was acquired by Verizon (VZ) in 2017 for about $4.8 billion. Verizon then merged Yahoo with AOL to create Oath, led by former Google executive Tim Armstrong.
Mayer resigned from Yahoo after Verizon completed its merger.
She is also a member of Walmart’s (WMT) board of directors, having joined in 2012.
AT&T stock is done up by 0.3% Friday to close at $16.98.
