PRESS RELEASE
Hack The Box (HTB), the leading gamified cybersecurity upskilling, certification and talent assessment platform, has launched its latest hands-on certification offering, Hack The Box Certified Web Exploitation Expert (HTB CWEE), targeting roles specialized niche jobs.
2024 began with a supermassive “mother of all breaches,” marking an acceleration of cyber threats. Added to this is an increasing diversity of APIs and applications as well as a boom in digital transformation, which creates a larger attack surface and therefore increases risks. Development, security, and operations practices and prioritization of risk mitigation are proving critical to secure software development and deployment.
To support the need for elite professionals, the HTB CWEE program and exam is a rigorous, hands-on certification that evaluates candidates’ proficiency in identifying advanced and elusive web vulnerabilities. Using both blackbox and whitebox techniques, certified individuals will possess the capabilities to navigate complex web environments and discover vulnerabilities that traditional assessments may overlook.
Haris Pylarinos, CEO and founder of Hack The Box, She said: “We at Hack The Box want to teach real-life skills. Our new certification methodology avoids specific attacks and commands but instead focuses on growing a risk mitigation mindset. We don’t teach secure coding. We teach how to find vulnerabilities in vulnerabilities existing code and how to avoid them or how to scan for errors and apply payloads. In our latest research we found that only 70% of IT and cybersecurity professionals have been offered cybersecurity training in the last year. This situation must change. Risk mitigation must be prioritized and this requires continuous upskilling.”
Enterprises and large corporations, along with financial institutions, government agencies or public sector organizations, are prime targets of attacks due to their large IT environments and access to large amounts of valuable data. With the latest technologies in network security, these threats are commonly detected by attacking from the outside and targeting different layers of web applications. With this in mind, key features of the HTB CWEE certification include:
-
Technical expertise in web security, penetration testing, and advanced level secure coding domains
-
Expertise in application debugging, source code review, and developing custom exploits
-
Expertise in conducting web penetration tests against modern, highly secure web applications
-
Ability to report vulnerabilities found in the code or resulting from logical errors.
Haris Pylarinos, CEO and founder of Hack The Box, continued: “We have adapted this certification to meet the evolving needs of cybersecurity professionals, providing them with the knowledge and skills needed to effectively combat modern threats. The landscape is changing for cybersecurity, and individuals at every stage of their career must ensure you stay ahead of the latest risks and threats. In an era where cyber threats loom large, organizations must strengthen their defenses against external attacks that target various layers of web applications and ensure that their teams know how to address these threads head-on.”
The HTB CWEE curriculum provides professionals with the skills to identify vulnerabilities in existing code, apply effective mitigation strategies, and improve the overall security of web applications.
