Like many other American cities, Austin, Texas is facing a growing homelessness problem.
A video circulating on social media shows a wooded area popular with residents absolutely overwhelmed with trash, clothes, old furniture and other debris.
Some locals say the rubbish is even flowing into a nearby stream.
FOX News reported:
Debris from Austin homeless encampment falls into creek: ‘Madness’
An Austin, Texas, resident who has been documenting the city’s homelessness crisis shared a video Wednesday showing a green space destroyed by a homeless encampment.
The Barton Creek Greenbelt in South Austin is located along Barton Creek and connects to Barton Springs Pool, a popular area frequented by city residents.
Jamie Hammond, who uploads videos under the account “Documenting Austin’s Streets and Homeless,” said the greenbelt has become “so bad.” He said trash and debris from the camp – including trash and needles – was falling into Barton Creek, which flows into Barton Springs.
“If this doesn’t upset people, nothing will,” Hammond said in the video, as he toured the wreckage. “Folly.”
Last month, Hammond collaborated with the group Nomadik to develop an interactive, AI-powered map documenting the city’s homelessness crisis. The map vividly depicts where homeless encampments are concentrated throughout the city.
A fire broke out at the same camp on Thursday.

The Barton Creek greenbelt is SO BAD.
It’s literally the definition of insanity.
It’s all falling down in Barton Creek.

Where are all the liberals who claim to care about the environment?
For many so-called “environmentalists” onwards #ATXAdvice, this is really disappointing. The Barton Creek Greenbelt is one of the most beautiful green spaces of any urban center in the country. Where is the outrage?! @SierraClubATX @TexasSierraClub #txlege https://t.co/HMKfqha8aM

It is heartbreaking to see what has been done in this area.
