Illegal alien arrested in crash that killed staffer of Democratic US Senator Catherine Cortez Masto | The Gateway Expert

The United States Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) has filed charges against an 18-year-old Honduran man who was arrested in connection with a car crash that killed a staffer of Democratic U.S. Senator Catherine Masto who entered the United States illegally.

Elmer Rueda-Linares, 18, was involved in a two-way car crash April 6 that killed Kurt Englehart, a senior adviser to Sen. Cortez Masto.

After the fatal crash, Rueda-Linares fled the scene of the accident and was later charged with felony hit-and-run.

Rueda-Linares’ hit-and-run offense has since been dismissed and he has now been charged with “failing to stop at the scene of an accident.”

ICE told Fox News that Rueda-Linares entered the United States in March 2021, near Rio Grande City, Texas, without receiving any inspections from immigration authorities.

Per Reno Gazette-Journal:

The 18-year-old arrested in connection with the death of US Senator Catherine Cortez Masto’s advisor was in the country illegally.

Elmer Rueda-Linares was involved in a two-vehicle crash around 4:30 a.m. April 6 on Kietzke and Peckham lanes that killed Kurt Englehart, senior state counsel to Cortez Masto, a Democrat.

On April 8, federal agents placed an immigration detainer — or “ICE hold” — on Rueda-Linares, who is being held in the Washoe County Jail, the Department of Homeland Security told RGJ on Tuesday in a statement.

According to the sheriff’s office, the initial charge against Rueda-Linares of “hit and run” was changed to “failure to stop at the scene of an accident.” He is being held on $100,000 bail.

Trump issued a response to the deadly incident by saying Biden’s open border policies are the “kiss of death.”
