In America, people choose their leaders by voting. It’s called “democracy”.
Even in America, some people want to prevent others from voting for certain candidates by simply banning voting for those candidates by excluding them from the ballot.
In other words, the exact opposite of democracy.
Illinois has now become the latest state to threaten democracy.

Illinois tries to obliterate Trump
Illinois, unfortunately, is not the first state to try to ban voters from supporting Trump.
CBS News reports, “A Cook County judge on Wednesday ordered the Illinois Board of Elections to remove former President Donald Trump from the Illinois primary, but also put the order on hold, pending a likely appeal.”
“Cook County Circuit Judge Tracie R. Porter issued the sentence Wednesday, but stayed the ruling until Friday in anticipation of an appeal to the Illinois Appellate Court or the Supreme Court,” the report adds. “The primaries are March 19th.”
The story continued:
Trump campaign spokesman Steven Cheung responded quickly, saying, “This is an unconstitutional ruling that we will quickly appeal.”
Illinois is one of many states considering disqualifying former President Trump due to his role in the attack on the U.S. Capitol on January 6, 2021 — and whether it could be considered an insurrection.
The case is based on Section 3 of the 14th Amendment, which bars officials sworn to uphold the Constitution from serving in government if they participate in an insurrection. The provision was enacted in 1868 to prevent former Confederates from holding office – and remained mostly dormant for more than 150 years.
Section 3 of the 14th Amendment — also known as the insurrection clause or disqualification clause — had never been used in the nation’s history to disqualify a presidential candidate until December.
But that changed when the Colorado Supreme Court concluded that Trump’s conduct related to Jan. 6 deemed him unfit for the presidency. The court ordered that he be barred from counting the state’s Republican presidential primary.
Do you see the language used? “Attack on the Capitol” and “insurrection.” Recall that President Trump told everyone to protest peacefully and that he was acquitted by the Senate during the impeachment trial for the incident.
It’s hard to see any of this as anything other than pure power politics in a deeply blue and corrupt state.

In a democracy, people choose
Regardless of what happens in the states, the Supreme Court will make the final decision.
CBS News notes: “The U.S. Supreme Court is expected to make a decision on the issue soon. If the U.S. Supreme Court rules in favor of Trump, most efforts to keep him off the ballot – in Illinois, Colorado, Maine and elsewhere – would likely be undermined.”
It should be thrown away. Voters should choose, not local leaders.
In a republican democracy, like the American one, voters choose their leaders.
Elites can’t suddenly change the rules just because they don’t like Donald Trump.
Now is the time to support and share the sources you trust.
