“He was an incredible talent and he loved his family like he loved his country,” Kid Rock told Fox News. “And we shouldn’t forget what a fun guy he was.”

“I was thinking that just when I heard the news 30 minutes ago, memories started running through my head of all the awards shows and after-parties, whether it was in the back room at the Losers picking out guitars or we were at a golf or out in Los Angeles,” he continued. “So many different places over the years. He was just a great guy. We called him Big Dog. He was a great man.”

Kid Rock went on to praise Keith for the love he had for the United States Army and the brave men and women who wear the uniform.

“We used to joke about who went there more because he and I definitely have dozens, if not 20 times, that we have been there,” Kid Rock concluded. “Going through Christmas and Thanksgiving, just every time we got called we would go do it.”

“Toby Keith did things his way: extraordinary artist, songwriter, patriot and man of faith,” said singer Lee Greenwood. “I admired him and how he behaved. He and I shared a deep love for our military and I am proud that he took his music to dangerous places to bring the American spirit to those who protect freedom.

“I was pleased that he called me OG and have been honored to work with him a few times over the years,” Greenwood added. “Please join our family in praying for the Covel family. I am confident that Toby was welcomed at the gates of heaven by the patriots who came before him and is resting in the arms of Jesus.”
