LastPass is warning its users about a fraudulent app found on Apple’s App Store, called “LassPass Password Manager”.
LastPass is a password manager application, a tool that allows users to create multiple strong passwords and store them all in one place, behind a single, strong master password.
Although the fake app closely resembles the official LastPass app in terms of branding and interface, upon closer inspection, the app has red flags, including spelling errors in its descriptions.
The fraudulent app also has only one rating and lists Parvati Patel as the developer; THE Legitimate LastPass appmeanwhile, it has 52,300 ratings and lists LogMeIn as the developer.
While it’s not a perfect imitation of the LastPass brand, its appearance in Apple’s official App Store is concerning, and unwary users who don’t look at the listing details may download the app by mistake. LastPass offered no details on the risks the fraudulent app might pose, beyond suggesting the potential theft of any credentials users enter: “We are bringing this to the attention of our customers to avoid potential confusion and/or data loss. personal,” the company said.
LastPass noted on its blog which is working to remove the fraudulent app.
