MSNBC’s Lawrence O’Donnell demonstrated that Republicans have a history of lying about abortion and don’t mean anything they say on the issue.
O’Donnell said:
Republican elected officials, especially presidential candidates, don’t seriously think about what they say about abortion, never have. They have always taken positions and none of them have ever wanted to face the reality of their position on abortion, which we are dealing with now, and which the people of Arizona are dealing with tonight, having been taken back to 1864. For living under a law written by a man no one elected to anything, when Arizona was a territory, half a century away from becoming a state. Making America great again now means making America as great as it was in 1864. When the Arizona Territory fought alongside the Confederacy in the Civil War to preserve slavery in America and impose laws on women, doctors and nurses who Everyone in Arizona has to live with this night.
Democrats in the Arizona state legislature tried to repeal that law today, and Republicans blocked it, and so Republicans in Arizona, actively made the decision today that people in Arizona need to live like it’s 1864, and It was not like this. not even a state. And so, journalists can and should hound Donald Trump on the campaign trail about the five-year prison sentences that doctors, nurses, support staff and drivers are facing in Arizona now, but you should also stay out of George W.’s house. Bush in Texas. and demand an answer from him. Is this what he wanted when he picked Samuel Alito for the Supreme Court? Or was George W. Bush simply playing the abortion politics game? As did all the Republicans before him. The game was never meant to be won. The game was to keep playing.

Abortion has always been a voting plan for Republicans. They never wanted Roe overturned, because otherwise they would have to face the policies they have supported for decades, but never wanted to implement, because they would be politically disastrous.
The dog should never have caught the moving car.
The problem is that after decades of brainwashing their supporters with anti-choice arguments, Republicans can’t admit that their previous position was a lie, and in the age of Trump they are governed by extremists, so the party is flipping out the political precipice after another, as they reassure the person in line behind them that abortion won’t matter in November.
Abortion will matter, that’s why Trump is moving away from it quickly, but the former president is like an arsonist. Trump continues to flee the scene, but also returns to marvel at and take credit for his fire.
Republicans have a history of lying about abortion, which is why no one should believe them now.
