Microsoft (NASDAQ:MSFT) said Tuesday that it has hired several new executives to help lead its consumer artificial intelligence unit, focused on Copilot.
Joining the company led by Satya Nadella will be Inflection AI co-founders Mustafa Suleyman and Karén Simonyan. Suleyman had previously founded DeepMind, which was purchased by Google (GOOG) (GOOGLE).
“Mustafa will be EVP and CEO of Microsoft AI and will join the senior leadership team, reporting to me,” Nadella wrote in a blog post. “Karén joins this group as chief scientist, reporting to Mustafa. I have known Mustafa for several years and greatly admire him as the founder of both DeepMind and Inflection, and as a visionary, product creator, and pioneering team builder pursuing bold missions. “
Nadella continued: “Karén… is a renowned AI researcher and thought leader, who has led the development of some of the biggest AI breakthroughs over the past decade, including AlphaZero.”
As part of the management change, Suleyman will lead the teams focusing on Copilot, Bing and Edge.
Kevin Scott will remain the company’s chief technology officer and executive vice president of artificial intelligence, Nadella said.
Rajesh Jha will remain executive vice president of Experiences & Devices and will continue to work on Copilot for Microsoft 365, collaborating with Suleyman and his team.
