AMSTERDAM (Reuters) -Nvidia Chief Executive Jensen Huang said on Monday that each country must have its own artificial intelligence infrastructure to harness economic potential while protecting its culture.
“This cannot be allowed to be done by others,” Huang said at the World Government Summit in Dubai.
Huang, whose company has catapulted to a stock market value of $1.73 trillion thanks to its dominance of the high-end AI chip market, said his company is “democratizing” access to AI through to rapid efficiency gains in AI computing.
“The rest is really up to you: take the initiative, activate your industry, build the infrastructure, as fast as you can.”
He said fears about the dangers of artificial intelligence are overblown, pointing out that other new technologies and sectors such as automotive and aviation have been successfully regulated.
“There are some interests to scare people about this new technology, to mystify this technology, to encourage other people to do nothing about that technology and rely on them to do it. And I think that’s a mistake.”
Following a new round of US restrictions imposed in October on some of its AI chips, Nvidia (NASDAQ:) said in November that it was working with customers in China and the Middle East to obtain export licenses for new products that comply with US regulations .
The CEO did not address the issue Monday.
Nvidia will report fourth-quarter earnings on February 21.
