Pakistan invests $36 million in national cybersecurity

Pakistan’s Economic Coordination Committee (ECC) has approved cybersecurity funding of 10 billion rupees, about $36 million.

Second local newsthe funds will be used for “necessary technical capabilities” to proactively identify potential cyber threats.

Financing follows an ad last November to divert 5 billion rupees – $18 million – in funds from information technology to cybersecurity research.

The ECC said the country’s digital cyber infrastructure needs stronger defenses in light of repeated cyber attacks on Pakistan’s networks.

The Pakistan Super League Cricket Association this week announced it had suffered a cyber attack, briefly taking it down ticketing platform.
