LONDON – The Princess of Wales revealed on Friday that she has been undergoing treatment for cancer.

In a video statement released Fridaysaid he underwent major abdominal surgery in London in January, saying his condition was thought not to be cancerous.

“The surgery was successful. However, tests carried out after the operation revealed that cancer was present. My medical team then advised me to undergo a course of preventative chemotherapy and I am now in the early stages of that treatment ” his statement said.

“This obviously came as a huge shock, and William and I did everything we could to process and handle this privately for the sake of our young family.”

“I am well and growing stronger every day by focusing on the things that will help me heal; in my mind, in my body and in my spirit,” he added later in his speech. She asked for space and privacy while completing the treatment.

Kate remained in hospital following the surgery. At the time, there was no confirmation of what the surgery was, with Kensington Palace saying that Kate, 42, hoped the public would respect “her wishes that her personal medical information should remain private”. The palace suggested at the time that Kate would not resume public duties until after Easter.

The princess had not been seen in public since Christmas Day 2023, when she was seen heading to a church service alongside the wider royal family, including her children and husband Prince William.

An online frenzy over his condition and whereabouts dominated social media after news of his operation broke. The palace had remained largely silent on the matter, which at times added fuel to the fire.

The obsession reached its peak after a photo of ex Kate Middleton was published in the UK on Mother’s Day, March 10. News outlets pulled the photo later that day, issuing a so-called Kill Notice, finding that it had been edited too heavily. Every detail of the image was carefully examined, from Kate’s hair to the children’s clothes that seemed flimsy, to a protrusion in the background that appeared distorted.

On March 11, Kensington Palace posted a statement from Kate on social media, saying she had edited the photo. “Like many amateur photographers, I experiment with editing from time to time. I wanted to express my apologies for any confusion caused by the family photograph we shared yesterday. I hope everyone who celebrated had a happy Mother’s Day .C,” it reads.

Since then, images and videos of what appeared to be Kate have appeared in British tabloids, further fueling conspiracies and conversations. Earlier this week, it also emerged that a member of staff at the hospital where Kate was being treated attempted to access her files without permission.

King Charles III, her father-in-law, announced in early February that he had been diagnosed with cancer of an unknown form and had begun treatment.
